8 Chatterton Road, Bromley, Kent
Ambiance
Upon entering you could think you’d stepped in to a busy trendy Shoreditch restaurant, but in fact Fireball Pizza has opened in the ever-improving foodie strip of shops and restaurants that is Chatterton village.
Service
We had an extremely bubbly and friendly waitress who talked us through the menu, as well as the background to the Chef and owner, James and his passion for good pizza. The restaurant was filled with families enjoying a weekend treat and all seemed well taken care of and happy.
Food
There’s a basic, crowd-pleasing menu on offer with hand rolled, hand stretched, wood fired pizza as the star of the show. We shared a Caprese to start – a generous plate of fresh basil, tomato and mozzarella with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and a side of marinated mixed herb Greek olives. For main, our favourite was ‘Michele’s meatball pizza’ – little round balls of herby meat served on a perfectly thin base that had the right amount of chew and a good crunch on the edges, with tomato, mozzarella, Grana Padano and basil. Portion size is large but doesn’t leave you feeling uncomfortably full thanks to the light base (just as a good pizza should!) For dessert, we went old school with an apple and cinnamon tart and a side of homemade rum and raisin ice cream that will certainly have us going back for more.
Drink
There are a good selection of wines and beers, along with a few select spirits, bubbles and soft drinks. We went for a Peroni (although there is also a local Meantime brewery lager on offer too) and a glass of red Italian Merlot – soft, good flavor and a great accompaniment to the pizza.
